Profile

Caroline van Bers is a guest researcher with the Institute of Environmental Systems Research at Osnabrück University, after working there for many years. Since March 2022 she coordinates an interfaculty programme at the University of Twente in the Netherlands, Resilience@UT which focuses on promoting transdisciplinary research in resilience in three sectors, climate, safety and health care. She has been involved in environmental management and sustainable development with academic, governmental and non-governmental organizations in Europe and North America for over thirty years. This work, ranging from research to capacity development, has always been interdisciplinary and applied in nature. A particular focus has been the promotion of Integrated Assessment approaches and methods at the science-policy-practice interface particularly in her long-time management role with The Integrated Assessment Society co-founded by Prof. Claudia Pahl-Wostl in 2003. She now serves as the association's president.
